Ovagen (also known as EDL, or the tripeptide sequence Glu-Asp-Leu) is a short-chain cell-regulating peptide composed of three amino acids: glutamate, aspartate, and leucine. It appears as a white or off-white lyophilized powder with high water solubility and acidic properties. Structurally, it has two acidic amino acid residues, carrying a negative charge under physiological pH conditions. This gives it high hydrophilicity, low fat solubility, and stability, making it unable to cross the blood-brain barrier and primarily act on peripheral tissues like the liver and gastrointestinal epithelial cells.
