What is Liraglutide?
Liraglutide is a GLP-1 analog with 97% sequence homology to human GLP-1, which binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor. The GLP-1 receptor is a target of native GLP-1, an endogenous incretin hormone that promotes glucose concentration-dependent secretion of insulin in pancreatic beta cells. Unlike Daran GLP-1, the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of liraglutide in humans are suitable for once-daily dosing regimens. After subcutaneous injection, the mechanism of prolonged action includes: self-association that slows down absorption; binding to albumin; and dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) and neutral endopeptidase (NEP) Higher enzyme stability and thus longer plasma half-life.

Mechanism of Action
Stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin in a glucose-dependent manner, which only works when blood sugar is high, reducing the risk of hypoglycemia.

🔬 Indications
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other hypoglycemic drugs (such as metformin, sulfonylureas, etc.).
Obesity/Overweight: It is approved for long-term weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m²) or overweight (BMI ≥27 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related comorbidity (such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia).
💉 Administration and Dosage
Administration Route: Subcutaneous injection, which can be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
Dosage for Diabetes: The initial dose is 0.6 mg once a day, and it can be increased to 1.2 mg after at least one week. If needed, it can be further increased to 1.8 mg after another week.
Dosage for Weight Management: The initial dose is 0.6 mg once a day, and then the dose is gradually increased weekly, up to a maximum of 3.0 mg once a day.

Gastrointestinal Reactions: The most common ones include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation, which are usually mild to moderate and tend to improve with prolonged use.
